James Bremer said he used to sleep curled up in a downtown doorway this winter until some people from Father’s House, a church in downtown Longview, discovered him.
"They gave me food and told me about this place," Bremer, 58, said Monday morning outside the Daily Living Essential Cafe and Extreme Weather Center at 1335 11th Ave., Longview.
The Extreme Weather Center, which is open all night during freezing weather, is operated by volunteers from Love Overwhelming, a multi-denominational nonprofit ministry. According to volunteer Summer Christianson, the ministry has rented the Evangel Christian Fellowship building since October to distribute cold-weather gear and hot coffee to the homeless.
